What is APA Style?

APA Style is a set of standards for the writing and design of academic documents established by the American Psychological Association (APA).  The guidelines, which are published in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, were developed to aid reading comprehension in the social and behavioral sciences, for clarity of communication, and for wording that reduce language biases.

APA Style uses an author-date reference citation system in the text, usually in parentheses, with an accompanying reference list that provides the author, year, title, and source of the cited work.
