To Do:

1. ATL and Profile Reflection

  • Select 1-2 ATLs and Learner Profiles you would like to develop for Exhibition. Refer to the following resources in the '03. Journals and Reflections' folder:

    • Approaches to Learning

    • Learner Profiles

    • PYP - The IB Learner Profiles

  • Complete the left-hand column of the ATL and Profile Reflection.

    • As you go through Exhibition, add examples and set goals for how you plan to or how you demonstrated your selected ATL and Profiles.

2. Develop three Lines of Inquiry (LoI)

  • Write 3-5 questions for each key concept in the ‘Developing Key Concept Questions’ file.

  • Refer to the ‘Key Concept Stem Questions’ and ‘Key Concept Questions by Subject’ files to guide you.

  • Select three Key Concepts:

  • One ‘F’ (Form or Function)

  • One ‘C’ (Change, Connection, or Causation)

  • One Responsibility or Perspective

  • In the ‘Choosing Key Concepts and Lines of Inquiry’ file, copy your top question from your selected key concepts (from the ‘Developing Key Concept Questions’ file).

  • Write your questions as statements. These statements will become your Lines of Inquiry. E.g. How did race cars change over time?-->How race cars changed over time.

  • Add three additional questions underneath each LoI from the ‘Developing Key Concept Questions’ file. These will be your research questions.

  • Use the checklist to evaluate your LoI. Revise if necessary.

  • Have your LoI approved by your teacher/PYP expert.

3. Write 3-6 journal entries

  • Set specific goals for a session, day, or week.

  • Plan discussion points for your Mentor Meeting.

  • Write about your thoughts, feelings, progress, and challenges. Your journal entries should be at least one paragraph (5-6 sentences).

  • Upload pictures of your journal entries in the Week 1 subfolder in '03. Journals and Reflections'.

  • Optional: Add relevant graphics/sketches/artifacts/videos to enhance your entries.

  • Look for feedback from your teachers by the end of next week or the week after.

4. Meet with your mentor

  • You are allowed to meet your mentor during your English, UOI, Bible lessons, or during break times. Do NOT schedule your meetings during specialist lessons. Avoid meeting before 7.25 a.m. as your teachers will typically have devotion and announcements.

  • Aim to meet your mentor at least once a week. Have two possible meeting times in case one does not work out.

5. Begin research

  • You can begin researching while waiting for final approval of your LoI. Aim to collect 20-30 sources by Friday, 26 January. Use the Research Organizer provided in the 04. Research folder.
    • Sources should be varied - books, articles, pictures, artifacts, videos, interviews, surveys
    • Include a word bank of at least ten important words, with definitions.
    • Research notes should include technical terms, quotes, facts, statistics, pictures, summaries, paraphrase, and reflections about how the source helps you. Depending on your topic, your research might include designing prototypes, conducting experiments, or creating surveys.
    • Write about a half page of notes for each source
    • Research should generate new questions for further inquiry
    • Be selective. Not every source will be relevant.
    • Evaluate your sources for reliability.
    • Create a Works Cited page using easybib or bibme to format your sources in MLA style.
    • Upload relevant files to your research folder if needed, e.g. artifacts, audio clips, ebooks.
    • Because of the extensive notes you will be taking, you may consider creating separate files. One suggestion would to create subfolders for each Line of Inquiry and having a separate research organizer for each LoI.
